Here is already our last car journey on the US roads, at least for this trip :) With pleasure we drove back in the american countryside, its (almost) straight and desert roads and its broad landscapes along the Pacific coast.
First part of the journey: small stop in the Silicon Valley (guess which pictures have been taken there… :) ) then San Jose to see the Winchester’s house ( former residence of Winchester rifle inventor). His wife built a strange house with dozens of rooms, corridors or door that lead nowhere. Interesting even from outside only (we were on a hurry after having looking for this house for about an hour…). Next stop of the day, Monterey, small fisherman’s harbor village recommended by all the guide books we had. However, nothing exciting, just an old wharf with small fishermen’s houses converted into souvenirs shop... Late night arrival in the hotel then no time to stop and take proper pictures :) You’ll have to content yourself with the ones taken from the car :)
Superb second day ! Heat is back :) First stop in Solvang, small town built by Danish colons as you may have guessed from the pictures :) Charming piece of Danmark in the big California, a bit outside of the tourist way:) Very pleasant place to see. Oh yes, the old style photo… :) My idea, my pleasure, our fun :) The photographer was a weird but very nice and open person. (There is a film showing the way he’s living and the way he’s taking photos here if you’re interested).
Last stop in Santa Barbara. Once again, we expected more, star houses, luxurious boutiques, something like that:) Nothing! At best a nice palm-lined beach, a banal shopping street, homeless people everywhere and a nice pier. Luxurious villas must have been hidden somewhere in the hills maybe…
Then we finally arrived in Los Angeles during rush hours on a 5 lanes highway… fortunately I was not driving :) … to be continued :)
